Men and Womens Lax Make NCAA’s

The University of Maryland doesn’t usually sweat out lacrosse selections, but 2009 was a little different for the men. The good news is that the Terps qualified for the post season, but not by much. The men received an at large bid (clinching their 7th straight post season appearance) and will travel to Notre Dame to face the number 7 seeded Irish. The good news is that the Terps entered the 1997 NCAA Lax Tournament as an at large bid and managed to make it the whole way to the Championship game before bowing out to Princeton. Some more good news is that the Terps are 3-0 against the Irish, so hopefully that trend can continue. The men will face ND on May 10th at noon.

Over on the woman’s side, there was less uncertainty. The ladies advanced to the post season for the 20th straight time, and going undefeated (19-0) really takes the suspense out of things. What is surprising is that the Lady Terps did not get the #1 seed. That went to Northwestern. The Ladies will also play on May 10th at noon, but their match up will be against Colgate. The Maryland Program will be going after it’s 11th National Championship, but first since 2001, when they also went undefeated.

Extra Droppings:

I don’t see this anywhere, but the rumor from the other guy who writes regularly here is that the Maryland-Cal football game will be a 7:00 pm kick off. That’s 7:00 West Coast time, or 10:00 pm for those who stay at home. As a football fan who loves falling asleep to some Hawaii/Wyoming midnight game, this is quite an honor. Though I plan to be in Berkley, the thought that all the bars back home will have this on during prime time bar hours makes me very happy. Why isn’t it September yet???
