Lax and Mom’s

Happy Mothers Day!  Actually based on our probable demographic, it might be better to open with “Don’t forget today is Mothers Day”.  So if you are a mom and reading this, have a great day, you’ve earned it (I have a better appreciation for this holiday now than I did two years ago!), and if you are someone’s child, give your mom a call and thank her for the time you were a toddler and she took away the scissors you somehow managed to get your hands on.

Moving on, today is a big day for Maryland Lacrosse.  Both the Men and Woman open up NCAA Tournament play at noon.   The men will travel to Notre Dame to take on the 7th seeded Irish.  This game will be Televised on ESPNU (614 on Direct TV I believe, though you may want to double check that).   So after you return from church or brunch or whatever else you got going on today, don’t forget to check in on the men.

Though the Terps are underdogs in this one, take comfort in the fact that just like the Men’s Basketball team, they don’t usually have trouble in the first round of the tournament.  Maryland is 19-6 overall in the first round and has won 8 of their last 9 first round games.  Now granted most of them were probably in College Park and featured the Terps as the favorite, but still, it’s a good trend.

Over on the ladies side the woman will be facing Colgate at about the same time.  As mentioned before the Lady Terps are still trying to protect their undefeated season.  The woman are shooting for their 10th National Championship which would be 5 more than any other woman’s team.  Another quick tournament factoid is that the Maryland Woman’s program is 6-0 in Overtime in the history of the NCAA Tournament.  So good luck ladies (actually good luck Colgate).

So there you have it, there aren’t many college sporting events left until Football season, so if you have a need to cheer on the terps one more time before summer sets in, today is your day.

Extra Droppings:

The snake sighting count for 2009 is up to 4.  I’d like to say this is the one I saw last time, but he was smaller than #3, so who knows.  It’s going to be a long year.

Don’t ever watch the movie “Snakes on a Plane”. You may never make it to Berkley in the fall if you do.
