Former Terp Brett Cecil Makes MLB Debut

Just as one of our bloggers is bashing the state of Maryland Baseball, this guy is going to write something positive about the program.  Former Terp Brett Cecil (Dunkirk, MD) made his major league debut today for the Toronto Blue Jays.  Cecil earned a no-decision as the Blue Jays offense didn’t wake up until the seventh inning where they scored seven runs to take the lead.  Cecil pitched well enough for the win however, going 6 innings, striking out 6, allowing 6 hits, 0 walks, 2 runs (1 earned) while throwing 96 pitches.  Cecil holds the Maryland record for saves with 23 and he was drafted in the first round (# 38 overall) of the June 2007 Amateur Draft after his Junior season with the Terps.
