Bad Decisions and Missed Oppurtunties

I have two words for you….NEW COKE.  That is what I would like to say to whoevers idea it was to implement the ban on the BYOB policy.  I was speechless looking at those overhead shots.  SPEECHLESS!  We used to go to the Preakness at 6:00 am so that we could be there when the gates open so that we could run in and save our spot (just like the Oklahoma Land Rush).  Had we shown up at 6 am today, we probably would have thought the race was cancelled.  I’m sure there will be much “spinning” of this, but if the Preakness is supposed to pay for the rest of the racing days in Maryland, I’m concerned!

Now on to more bad decisions.  Sorry about Friesan Fire, my bad.  Don’t worry though I promise to make another pick in 3 weeks so that you can narrow the Belmont field of possible winners by at least 1.  I’m also bummed at my missed oppurtunty to highlight that Tone It Down was trained by a guy who played football at Maryland.  I mean the point of this blog is to point out this stuff, if we aren’t doing that, what are we doing.  I guess you can call it my own New Coke moment.  Of course I’m not going to spin it, I’m just going to say I’m sorry and move on.  I wish other people would do that.

Finally congratulations to Rachel Alexandra.  That was a great race.  I thought Mine that Bird was going to catch her.  In fact it was a few seconds until I noticed that I was out of my seat and jumping up and down as they went to the wire.  I really wanted Mine That Bird to catch her so that we could keep the Triple Crown dream alive, but you got to give it to Rachel A.   Great race, I just wish more people would have seen it.

I saw it. I couldn’t believe Mine that Bird came from that far back yet again. Another 50 yards and he would have caught the filly. He’s a gelding so you will see him running a lot of the next couple of years. He will probaby run the Travers Stakes at the end of the Summer too.
