2010 Maryland Football Recruiting Off to a Fast Start
This past week the Terps Football team got their fourth commitment for the class of 2010. It is very interesting to me as this may be one of the smaller classes for the Terps as there are only about 16 Seniors with scholarships, and the class seems to be filling up fast.
The latest commitment is QB Tyler Smith (thanks to Matt Bracken at the Sun for the great article) from Easton, PA (Wilson Area High School), where he played for a former collegiate teammate of James Franklin. He is currently ranked as a 1 star prospect on scout.com, but that usually means they have not ranked him yet. Smith helped lead the Wilson Area School to a 12-1 record last year, throwing for almost 3,000 yards, 35 touchdown, and 11 interceptions. He really liked the opportunity to come into Maryland and compete with Jamarr Robinson, Danny O’Brien and C.J. Brown for the Starting job in 2010. What I really liked reading about this kid, is when he was getting recruited by other schools, he was always thinking they didn’t compare with Maryland. Friedgen always talks about really wanting the kids that really want to be Terps, and Tyler Smith seems to fit that mold.
The three other commits are: CB Jerimiah Wilson from Winchester, VA, TE Sean Fitzpatrick from from Pittsford, NY, and Safety Titus Till from Upper Marlboro, MD. Again the rankings on these players really tend to move a lot over the summer as they begin attending camps, and start their Senior season of high school football. Wilson is a 1 star, while Fitzpatrick and Till are both 3 star prospects according to scout.com
Extra Droplets
If you are looking for a little more reading on the Terps Football team, here is a nice little interview with Coach Friedgen by Dennis Dodd on cbssports.com about lots of interesting topics including weight loss.
Here is an article in the Post on Dane Randolph and yet another on Edwin Williams.
