2009 Maryland Basketball Recruiting May Not Be Over Yet
Maybe, I have never followed basketball recruiting to this level before, but this year it seems the recruiting of the new class may never end. It appears the Terps are making room for another top notch big man. Rummors around College Park indicate Steve Goins may be the next Terp to transfer out. That is not really a big story, but this is. Florida decommit, DeShawn Painter has narrowed his list to Virginia Tech and Maryland. Painter is a 6’9″ PF from Hargrave Military Academy and is the #20 ranked PF by scout.com.
So with what appears to be two open scholarships available, the Terps are still in the running for two players that can be difference makers early. Though the Terps are still technically alive for Lance Stephenson, I am really not expecting him to be a Terp. It appears Arizona may now be in the running for his services as well. I wouldn’t be shocked if he wound up at some school like Kansas St, or some other school that comes out of nowhere to get him. On the other hand this Painter situation seems it could be more of a reality, as the Terpswere in his top 5 before the Florida verbal. Stay tuned for the Maryland recruiting saga.
Extra Droplets
Living in Boston is not as cool as living in Beverly Hills, but yesterday I got a little bit of a taste for Beverly Hills. If you remember Steve Sanders drove a Corvette while at West Bev in 90210. His license plate was I8A 4RE. Well as I was traveling on 93 North just a couple of miles north of Boston, I passed a Ford Escape that had the same plate from New Hampshire. It just doesn’t have the same effect when it is on an suv.

I have to believe that was a coincidence. Who would put that plate on an Escape?

Wow, I hope that plate is in tribute to Steve Sanders and not someone who thinks they are being original!
As for Painter. I agree 100%. The odds of him landing in CP are much more realistic than Stephenson, in my opinion. But could you imagine getting both?!
