Stephenson Will NOT be a Jayhawk
In more Maryland Basketball recruiting news….with the committment of Xavier Henry on Thursday to Kansas, it appears the Jayhawks no longer have room for Lance Stephenson. Bill Self, per Matt Bracken at the Baltimore Sun, has basically said his class is full and he is no longer recruiting for 2009. What this means for Maryland, we’ll it certainly doesn’t guarantee anything, but there were a lot of people out there who thought Kansas was going to be his destination. Unless there is another school out there who swoops in, this could very well go down to Maryland vs. St. Johns.
Based on what I have seen of the situation, I have pretty much written off the idea of Stephenson to Maryland, but I think I may have to reconsider. Though I have given up on the situation, it appears Gary Williams has not, and with Kansas dropping out of the picture, while Gary has gone to the full court press, you just never know.
One thing we can all agree about Gary is that he is best motivated by lack of respect, and when he is backed into a corner he is at his most dangerous. I could totally see Gary pull this one out somehow just so that he could march Lance Stephenson into the office of the Washingon Post and rub Born Ready into the face of every sports reporter down there. You’d have to admit, stranger things have happened in recruiting.
Regardless there is still no time table for Stephenson to committ, which when you are trying to write a blog about Maryland Football and Basketball is certainly good news. We need all the material we can get to carry us over until August!
Extra Droppings:
Don’t you hate when you do something really awesome and no one is around to see it? The other day we had a peanut butter and choclate egg sitting in a plastic tray for easter. My daughter somehow got a hold of the tray and pulled it off the counter. With my back turned, I heard the crunch of her hand grabbing the plastic and turned in time to see the egg making a bee-line for the floor. Standing 6 feet away I lunged and made a one handed catch about 6 inches above the point of impact. And of course the first thing I thought was..why wasn’t there anyone there to see that!
