Quick Hits from the Spring Game

With all the excitement of the draft going on this weekend, we hadn’t had any time to touch on the Spring Game.  For those waiting the news the White Team defeated the Red Team 34-24.  Good news for the offense, not so much for the Defense.

I guess the highlight of the Spring game had to be the Quarterback play (or lack of Defense depending on whether you are an optimist or a pessimist).  Though we often say that we are one injury away from the Jamarr Robinson era at QB, that doesn’t look as bad as we initally thought.  Robinson had a heck of a spring game going 12 for 21 with 253 yard and 3 TD’s.  On the receiving end of those TD’s was Quintin McCree.  McCree had 3 TD’s to go along with his 163 yard receiving.

Chris Turner didn’t exactly disappoint either.  Turner went 15 for 21 with 2 TD’s of his own.  Adrian Cannon, who has probably one of the best last names a WR can have (except maybe Bullet or Flash) was a popular target for Turner.  Cannon had 5 catches for 99 yards and caught both of Turners TD’s.

The biggest concern of the day for me was that two punts were blocked in this game.  I don’t know when the last time was that Maryland surrended a blocked punt, but I don’t want that streak to end.  Hopefully this gets straightened out in August because we can’t afford to give our opponents a short field in 2009.

And lastly the attendance for the Red White game was listed as 10,323.  Not exactly what some schools pull for their spring game, but I’m fine with that for Maryland.
