Uh Oh, Trouble Brewing for Terps?
Mississippi State just knocked off Tennessee in the SEC Championship meaning a bubble team has just been kicked out. Is it Maryland, well we won’t know for a couple more hours, but it could be. The last Bracketology update I saw had us as one of the top four “In” bubble teams, if that holds we may still be in, but basically of those 4 listed, one is now on the outside looking in.
I certainly hope Mississippi State did not knock us out. I always get paranoid that some conferences try to manipulate the outcome of their conference tournaments in order to get the most teams in. I guess I’m a little too right wing on that sort of stuff, but based on how the game ended, I don’t think the refs could have manipulated that game if their lives depended on it.
The worst part about missing out would be that, and maybe I’m biased here, ok, I am biased here, but that was a terrible Conference game. I don’t think either team deserved to get in. It was basically the “Bad shot selection” derby, or you could call it the battle of the “I can’t inbounds”. Either way I was not impressed by either team. But the rules are clear, you win your tournament you get an automatic bid. We did it in 2004, so who are we to complain now? But whatever your thoughts on the SEC are, things just got a little more tense in College Park.
Extra Droppings:
If the Big 10 gets more teams into the tournament than the ACC I will go on a rampage. I mean the ACC-Big 10 challenge has been a joke since it’s debut. It has progressed to the point where you feel bad for those kids, yet every year it seems the Big 10 gets more bids than we do (I haven’t fact checked that but it seems that way). What is the point of the challenge if the selection committee doesn’t even pay attention to it?

You’re right that Miss State might have bumped Maryland out. Hope they still get in.

Tennessee is terrible. They were given 15 chances to win the game and couldn’t get it done. They deserve to lose in the first round of the NCAA tournament. I hope Miss St. knocked out Creighton or St. Mary’s and not MD. That is two years in a row now that an SEC team not in the tournament, played their way in. Terrible conference.
