Then There Were Three

When you ask a bunch of grade school kids what they want to be when they grow you will get a lot of ambitious answers. Some will say President, some will say a Big CEO, Astronaught, or a famous athlete, but what these kids fail to realize at that these jobs, though well paying, also come with a great deal of responsibility. OK, maybe not the famous athlete, but the other ones aren’t just show up and collect a paycheck jobs.

People don’t often think about responsibility, but I have news for you, responsibility sucks. Look at Maryland, once again we are part of the Big Three who has to carry the rest of the Conference. UNC, Duke, and Maryland are the only three ACC teams left. Though I’m sure other teams would be willing to trade places with us, don’t forget there is a great of responsibility when you have to carry the honor of 9 other schools. I mean if you fail, you are letting down all the other schools in addition to yourself. That is quite a burden.

OK, maybe that is an exaggeration, I just wanted to use the Phrase “Big Three” with us and the other Tobacco Road schools, but in all seriousness, what the hell has happened to the ACC. I have been watching these schools all season long, they don’t suck. Yet, one after another they have been dropping off, some (I won’t name any names) in humiliating fashion.

In a way though it just makes you appreciate Gary Williams a little more. Gary has won 9 straight 1st Round games, you kind of take that for granted, but when you look and see 4 other schools flush away their season in just under two hours, you have to give the man his credit.

Of course that is all in the past, now we face Memphis in round two. According to most experts this could be the end of the line. But win or lose, this team has, as Harry from Dumb and Dumber would say, “HAS TOTALLY REDEEMED THEMSELVES!”. I’ll mention again we were picked by some to come in 11th in the ACC, and now after all the smoke has cleared, we are one of three teams left dancing. Let’s hope we can keep it up one more round. It won’t be easy, but if Memphis plays like they did against Cal State Northridge, and we play like we did against Cal, it isn’t such a long shot. After all I’m not about to count this team out yet.
