Good New, Bad News
We will start with the bad. Today the Men’s Lacrosse team lost a heart breaker to the undefeated Cavaliers of Virginia down in Charlottesville. The game went into a record 7 overtimes. It didn’t end without controversy as the Terps scored an overtime goal on a play just seconds after the referee blew his whistle for a time out that no one on the Maryland bench called. The Terps now fall to 6-3 on the year.
Just as the morale crushing goal was being scored in the Lax game, the women stumbled out of the gates in the NCAA’s down in Raleigh. Vanderbilt came out hard and lead until the very end. With 2:07 left on the clock Demauria Liles hit a layup to give Maryland it’s first lead. The star of the day however was Marissa Coleman who scored a career high 42 points. None more important than the one which gave Maryland a 76-74 lead. After a miss by Vanderbilt, the Terps iced it on the free throw line and walked away with a hard fought 78-74 victory, and more importantly an invitation to keep dancing in the Elite Eight. The Lady Terps will play Louisville on Monday night for a trip to the Final Four.
Extra Droppings:
I heard on the radio the other day that the NCAA would prohibit tournament games being played in Delaware if they legalize sports betting. That threat is about as hollow as my parents telling me they would never buy me a Lamborghini if I didn’t get a B in Algebra.
