Stayin’ Alive
It wasn’t the prettiest game, no one who Tivo’ed it or DVR’ed it is going to think twice about keeping it, but this one was huge. Both teams looked, well they both looked quite honestly like two lower echelon teams in the ACC. There were plenty of turnovers, yet not many points. The only difference is that this was just another shovel of dirt on Ga Tech’s coffin, while on the Maryland side it was a desperately needed breathe of fresh air.
Sure 4-5 is a long way from dancing and the upcoming road is full of land mines, but 4-5 is just a game below .500, and 3-6 is well..not. So despite missing some clutch free throws, and despite making some crisp passes to ghost players, we survived and moved on. No road win at this point in the season is truly ugly.
The Terps, and us fans who pace back and forth for 40 minutes during basketball games, get somewhat of a break this week. The next game will be against VT (ohh that means a nice long preview for a new school) and it will be on Valentines Day, which is entirely appropriate. Let’s face it, come Saturday we are either going to be heartbroken at 4-6, or loving everyone from Bowie to Vazquez. That’s usually how Valentines Day works. The good news is that halfway through February we still have a shot at the tournament, now let’s just hope Gary Williams and the boys can catch one of cupid’s arrows!
Extra Droppings:
When I first heard the A-Rod news, I was thrilled. Then the more I thought about it, the more I thought this probably just means everyone is on it. And even worse, for a guy who loves his closure, this means there is going to be a cloud of mystery surrounding this entire generation of baseball players. I swear, baseball is like a bad girl friend who keeps treating you like crap. They do everything possible to ruin this once proud game, yet I still can’t cut ties. The sad thing is, and maybe it isn’t so sad, there is a girl across the street who is really starting to come into her own. She is funny, she is cool, and the more you look at her the more pretty she seems to be. Her name is NFL, and while others may have already taken notice of her, today she is looking better and better to this guy who has pledged his heart to MLB. And if it’s happening to me, you better believe it is happening to 1,000′s or even 100,000′s of men out there like me. Baseball had better get it’s act straight, or I swear this time I’m really leaving….maybe. Ugh!

Your not leaving. I was hoping A-Rod wasn’t one of the guys juicing because that just means everyone did it. He would have had great numbers anyway and there was no reason to use steroids. But, I think a lot of great athletes are paranoid and he probably figured someone else was going to pass in the record books if he didn’t do something to elevate his play. Now I start to think about guys like Frank Thomas, Griffey, Pujols, Manny, etc etc.
