Maryland vs VT One Final Look
I hadn’t taken the time to put my two cents in from Saturday’s game against Virginia Tech yet. So, here are some of my random thoughts.
Eric Hayes, is having trouble getting the ball up against pressure. I don’t remember feeling this way in the past, but the last few games, he has really had trouble getting the ball up against pressure. He is also looking for his shot more. This is good, he made that huge three to answer a Vassallo three with about 7 minutes left. He (like the rest of the team) was automatic at the line going 4-4 from the line. Overall he played really well, I am just a little concerned with the ball handling against pressure.
Landon Milbourne, continues to show that he can be a go to guy on this team. He found multiple ways to score on Saturday. He hit long jumpers, got inside, had a put back, and finished on the break. In fact his dunk on the two-on-one from Cliff Tucker got him the number 5 play on Sports Center. He at times was also matched up with Jeff Allen on the defensive end and he helped keep him in check.
Greivis Vasquez, played very well despite the foul trouble. I will admit, when he got that fourth foul on Vassallo’s jumper I was concerned, but Hayes, Bowie and Tucker made sure it wasn’t going to be another late collapse for the Terps. Vasquez finished with 17, and hit 3 of 5 three pointers. Like Bob said, it was one of those games, when you look at the box score, you are kind of surprised by his numbers, in a good way.
Dave Neal, gives what he gives every night. He is not the most athletically gifted, but he provides quality minutes, and leaves everything he has on the floor. When his time his done, he will be remembered for his senior year. I will admit, he is contributing far more than I ever expected from him.
The last player I want to touch on is Sean Mosley. He just seems to have a knack for finding his way to the ball. He still makes some mistakes, but he is going to be one of those players that will be an first team All-ACC by his senior year. He does a lot of good things on defense (3 steals), but I am very impressed with the way he plays in the lane on offense. Again he had three offensive rebounds, and kept a couple of other ball alive. You can tell he will be one of Gary’s favorite players by the time he is done. He plays the way Gary expects you to play.
Well, there are some more thoughts, but those are the only ones I have time for now. Overall, it was an outstanding game for the Terps. It may have been the most complete effort since the Michigan State game. They played well from beginning to end, and made all the plays they had to. What is more enjoyable than watching a team go 24 of 26 from the free throw line and hitting 19 straight? Check back tonight, I will have a Clemson Preview up around dinner time.
