Let’s Try This Again

It is certainly no secret that tomorrows match up in Chapel Hill is going to be an uphill battle.  That’s the bad news, but as tough as that task appears, there is in fact some good news about this game.  Tomorrow the Terps have nothing to lose.

Whether or not you want to admit it, we all look at the schedule and mentally mark off W’s and L’s, and I think it is safe to say we all have this one down as an L.  Now I’m not saying we are giving up, we are just being realistic, I certainly wouldn’t be shocked if we showed up tomorrow night and played the best game of the season.  I’m just saying when we chart out the rest of the year and we try to figure out how this team is going to win 8 ACC games, most of us aren’t assuming this is a winnable match up.  (By the way you can argue all you want about whether 8 wins will get us into the tournament, but I say we get to 8 wins first and then worry about it being enough).

However with all that being said, I though the same thing going into Duke, and what was to follow was an absoulte debacle.  So though not many of us are expecting to win, we can’t exactly roll over either.  The fall out from that Duke game definitely carried into Comcast Center for the BC match up and this team doesn’t need anymore distractions.  But the message I’m trying to convey here is let’s not be too down in the event we lose tomorrow.  There is no shame in losing by 15 to UNC in Chapel Hill and it is no reason to jump on our kids who’s confidience is already waning.  Now if we lose by 30+ again, then by all means rail away!

Hopefully win or lose we get an effort out of our team that make us all proud.  And hopefully we do steal one, but let’s judge tomorrow night by the guts and effort put forth, more so than the final score.  On the otherhand if do end up winning, by all means gloat all you want!

Extra Droppings:

True story, my family and I went out to eat at this small resturant, the guy behind us ordered a hamburger or something.  The waitress brought it out the following conversation took place:

Guy:  Uh where’s the lettuce on my sandwich?

Waitress:  Oh the cook put it on the side that way you can decide if you want it or not.

Guy:  Yeah, but I kind of wanted the lettuce on my sandwich.

Waitress (in disbelief): Oh…uh…OK, I’ll take it back and have them put the lettuce on it.

My wife and I kind of exchange glances like did you just hear that conversation.  We eat our meal and the people behind us get up to leave, as the guy walks by he is wearing a Duke jacket.  I looked at my wife and we gave each other the “Now it makes sense” look.

Do you walk around with a notepad just incase something noteworthy happens? I agree, and have said it numerous times. I love the effort these guys play with. If some of our “more talented” teams in the recent past played like these guys we may not have missed as many tournaments as we have. They just need to sustain it for 40 minutes.

No, but I do make mental notes of what I can throw to E.D. That Duke jacket thing was a no brainer, hell I thought it was an odd enough story had the guy just been wearing a flannel jacket, but when I saw D U K E, I knew I had to run with it!!

Are you sure that guy wasn’t coach “K” on a recruiting trip?

I wish Witchart had been that guys waitress. I can only imagine what she would say to him.
