Lady Terps Take Down Duke

Much like the men yesterday, the #9 Lady Terps had the Comcast Center rocking as they took down # 7 Duke.  Actually they are still taking them down.  They are up 76-57 with 1:22 left, to the delight of 16,000+ fans.  As much as it was Greivis Vasquez’s arena yesterday, today it belongs to Kristi Toliver and Marissa Coleman.  Toliver went for 34 points and Coleman had 24 points and 10 rebounds.  Toliver was 7 of 13 from the 3 point line.  The win puts Maryland at 10-2 in the conference, and is one game behind 11-1 Florida State.

The game was close for the first half and Duke held a 33-31 lead.  Toliver and Coleman took over the second half, and the Maryland defense shut down Duke as they shot only 30% compared to Maryland’s 63% for the half.  It was total domination in the second half.

Toliver has been incredible shooting the three this year.  She makes them at crunch time, she makes them to stop runs, and she makes them to put teams away.  They are going to go as far as she and Coleman can take them, and hopefully that is an ACC Tournament crown and another trip to the Final Four.  Coleman went over 2,000 points in the game today.  Be sure to tune in Friday at 7:00 as they take on BC in the final home game for their careers.  They will be honored in the pregame ceremony and have their numbers hung from the Comcast rafters.  Truly deserved.
