Giving a Helping Hand
I’m not saying I deserve any credit, but I will say it is awfully suspicious that within a day of me writing my post on Steve Blake he comes out and records 14 assists in the first quarter of Portlands win over the Clippers. Yeah I know it’s the Los Angeles Clippers so it doesn’t really count, but regardless of the opponent 14 assist in one quarter is pretty darn impressive. Though Blake couldn’t keep up his pace all night (if he had he would of had 56 assist on the night. I’m no NBA historian, but I would wager that would a record), but he did finish with 17 assist in a game that Portland didn’t really need much help in after the first quarter.
The 17 assist ties an NBA record for most assists in a quarter, but that isn’t the cool part. Do you know who Blake is now tied with? None other than John Lucas, who did it for San Antonio Spurs back in 1984 in the second quarter against the ever so appropriately named Utah Jazz. Blake was quick to play it off, giving credit to his teammates for hitting the shots for him, but anyway you spin it, it’s quite a feat. And to now think that the record for most NBA assists in a quarter is now shared by Steve Blake and John Lucas is also nice, maybe we should start calling Maryland PGU!
In other news I am now starting a business where I will put your name on turtledroppings.com for a nominal fee. Just send me a check, I’ll do a post about you, then sit back and wait for something great to happen. It worked for Blake, it can work for you too!
Extra Droppings:
There are a few events each year that remind me exactly how far I have fallen off the pop culture map. The first is when I hang out with my high school age cousins, the next is the Academy Awards. Of all the movies either shown or nominated, I have seen a grand total of zero for 2008. I guess I need to get out more.

You beat me to the punch on this Slumdog Millionaire movie. I had never heard of it until last week. I must be living under a rock. Is it out now or on DVD?
Anyway, I heard that factoid about Blake. He has become a solid player on a team that wanted him, and he wanted to play for.

Slumdog Millionaire is a really, really good movie. It is still in the theaters.
And one of the biggest mistakes, among many, the Wizards made over the past few years was not resigning Blake.

The academy doesn’t nominate movies we would ever see.

How did Slumdog win for best original score. That was a dance club song that I have heard Bix do hundreds of times.
