Gary Williams Gets Support From Yow
How many times have you heard that a coaches boss (owner or AD) gives their full support, only to see said coach canned at the end of the season? Well ESPN is reporting Debbie Yow is giving her full support to Gary and expects him to fulfill the remaining 3 years of his contract. Now there have been rumors that she talked to some of the big time donors to see if anyone was willing to buy out the contract. So maybe the donors have Gary’s back, and she is just going to have to live with him.
I am torn with the whole situation. I would love to have Gary leave on his own terms. I don’t have a magic record in my mind for what it will take to get things to settle around College Park. I don’t think Gary has done everything he could have the last few years, but again where would Maryland Basketball be without him?

I’ll bet that Gary is better and more comfortable schmoozing with donors than he is recruiting. That just seems to fit his personality more.

He has some very rich friends. If Yow cans him and the boosters stop giving money to the university then her job may be in jeopardy. If Gary wins tonight or on the 21st or beats Duke on the 25th he won’t be going anywhere. I have no idea how he can beat those two teams but I wouldn’t be shocked if they did.

That’s what is strange. It is really like as a program we only have a couple of games that truly matter. I wouldn’t be shocked if we won. I also wouldn’t be surprised if we lost to a team like Morgan.
