Darrius Heyward-Bey at the NFL Combine

This is old news now but I just wanted to congratulate Darrius Heyward-Bey on a fabulous workout at this past weekends NFL scouting combine in Indianapolis, Indiana.  He ran a 4.3 40 yard dash which was the fastest time posted by any WR or RB all weekend.  On Sunday, the crawl on ESPN said he had run a 4.26 and a 4.29.  I guess they just round it up to 4.3.  Either way, he is fast.  All of us Terp fans already knew that but, I think the rest of the football world is starting to take notice.  There were other players who didn’t run such as Jeremy Macklin from Missouri because of injury.  Michael Crabtree from Texas Tech also has not run so they may be just as fast but it doesn’t really matter.  Heyward-Bey has probably assured himself a late 1st round or very early 2nd round selection.  A lot of scouts seem to be very interested in him and are probably going over all of his game tapes trying to figure out why he didn’t catch more balls in college.  From what I saw every weekend,  he was often double teamed and always had a safety behind him just in case they went deep to his side.  When he did get the ball in the open field (remember the screen pass in the VT game) he was hard to bring down.  I know I will miss him playing for the Terps but I think we all hope he has a great NFL career.  I’m also hoping that, if he is picked in the tail end of the first round, he goes to a good team.  Some say the Bears and Ravens have their eye’s on him.  Those two teams wouldn’t be a bad fit for Darrius.  In Baltimore he has a yound QB with a huge arm.  Who knows, they could be the next Montana and Rice.
