Terps Vs Boston College Pregame

The good news is, that most of us don’t have very long to dwell on the Duke game.   Let’s hope the rest of the team just kind of forgot about it and moved on quickly and are prepared for tonight’s game with the Eagles from BC.  So here is all you need to know about Boston College.

BC opened to only 22 students in 1864 and was founded by the Society of Jesus.  In 1909 it moved from its original location in Boston’s South End out to its current location in Chestnut Hill.  By 1970 all departments had become co-ed.  Boston College has always been a Catholic Jesuit University.  There are 9,081 full time students currently enrolled.  Tuition, room, and board will cost you $47, 139 a year.

BC’s list of Famous Alumni include Ed McMahon and Chris O’Donnell.  Robert Leonard, president and CEO of Ticketmaster went to BC.  William Bulger is a grad.  He is also the former President of UMASS, and more famously the brother of the head of Boston’s Irish Mob, Whitey Bulger.  Wow, Dr. Spock (Leonard Nimoy) and Elisabeth Hasselbeck are graduates as well.  Just incase it hasn’t been shoved down your throat enough, Doug Flutie is a graduate as well, who knew?  Ronald MacDonald is a graduate as well.  Not the one from the golden arches, but the winner of the first Boston Marathon.  Leslie Visser rounds out our list of BC grads.  I take that back.  Tennessee basketball coach Bruce Pearl will round out our list.

Speaking of basketball, Boston College’s up and down season gives them a record of 15-6 and 3-3 in the ACC.   BC shocked the college basketball world by winning in Chapel Hill, then returned to Conte Forum and lost to Harvard.  BC also lost to Miami, Wake Forest, and Virginia Tech in the skid after knocking off the top ranked heels.  They are currently on a two game winning streak coming into College Park after beating Georgia Tech and NCST.   Tyrese Rice leads the team with 18.4 points and 5.8 assist per game.  Vermont transfer Joe Trapani adds 14 points and 7.1 rebounds per game. Rakim Sanders and Corey Raji are also averaging over 11 points per game.  As a team BC shoots 44% from the floor and 34% from beyond the arc.  They are averaging only 13 turnovers per game.  The key will be containing Rice, and that is easier said than done.

Extra Droppings

I know this is Bob’s thing, but I thought this was worth mentioning.  Just incase you can’t get enough post season college basketball tournaments a fourth tournament has been announced in addition to the Big Dance, NIT, and CBI.  Are you ready for the Collegeinsider.com Tourney?  It will be a 16 team field with teams that have a winning record against division I programs and coming from conferences where less than half their teams qualify for the NCAA and NIT tournaments.  Here’s to hoping we miss this one!

It is snowing in Maryland today, and though it really isn’t that much, just about every county has closed schools. This of course is neither news or relevant to the BC game except that I expect there to be a lot of empty seats in Comcast. I wish they would do what Carolina did that one year and open up the arena to all students, but sadly I don’t even think we could fill our student section yet alone the whole building. Looks like God has given up on the Terps as well.
