Terps Basketball Removes the Stinger from Del State

Remember in my pregame article I talked about how the Terps used to slap on the press and the other team would look like a deer in headlights?Well the boys used full court pressure to help lead to easy baskets against Delaware State.  In fact there was a time where I started to feel bad for them late in the first half.  MD’s defense even force a 10 second call.  I don’t remember seeing that for a while.  This game was a little more than a scrimmage as it turned out, and it started with the defense.  Maryland forced Del State into 16 turnovers and did a good job converting them into points.

Many players used this game to pad some stats.  Landon Milbourne set another career high in points with 23 points and 7 rebounds.  Greivis Vasquez continued to fill out the stat sheet with 16 points, 8 boards and 7 assists.  Also scoring in double figures were Eric Hayes and Adrian Bowie, each adding 12 points.

This game was over early in the first half when Maryland went on a 17-2 to put them up 25-7.  Then they made sure the outcome was never going to be in question with 7-0 run to start the second half thanks to two Eric Hayes three pointers.

This game was exactly what it was supposed to be.  The last game before finals, against a team that had struggled to this point.  Last year, I wouldn’t have been shocked to see them struggle to put the Hornets away, but they took care of business, at least for this night.  They now get 10 days off for finals before getting back to action.

One final thought on this game, I don’t think Dino Gregory is the smoothest player out there, but he is by far the most active “big” man we have.  I was really hoping to see Braxton Dupree do something with the injury to Burney, but 0-1 shooting, and 1 rebound in 11 minutes (against Delaware State) wasn’t what I was hoping for.  In order for the Terps to continue the winning ways once they get into conference play, they are going to need some productive minutes from Dupree.  Until then, good luck on the exams boys, and we will see you in 10 days.

That’s funny because I was listening to the game on the way home and I think on one of Del St.’s 1st possesions, they turned it over to the press, and I immediately thought of your post!
