ACC 1-0
Yeah, I know this is a Maryland sports blog, but I think all Maryland fans have somewhat of an interest in how the ACC is faring overall this Bowl Season, and well, so far so good. Of course that is assuming you are cheering FOR the other ACC schools (for the record I am).
Wake Forest took the inagural Eagle Bank Bowl by defeating Navy 29-19, but it wasn’t easy. Navy already had one win on the year against the Demon Deacans, but you know the old saying “Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice shame on me”, you can apply that to Wake. Seeing the Navy offense previously, and having a month to prepare, Wake was ready this time out. Of course it didn’t start out that way. Navy jumped out to a 13-0 lead before Wake finally got on the board, but Wake Forest rallied to score the last 15 points to win the game going away.
Riley Skinner also set a school record going 11-11 on the day passing. Is it me, or does everytime Navy take the field there is some weird passing stat established. If I’m not mistaken they did become the first D1 school in ages (if not ever) to win a game without attempting a forward pass. I guess the lesson is, if you like passing, skip the Navy games.
Also just wanted to point out the attendance for the Eagle Bank Bowl was 28,777. I can’t decide if this is good or bad, but I’m leaning toward good.
Extra Droppings
Next up is UNC vs. WVU in the Meineke Car Care Bowl at 1:00 on December 27th. Followed by FSU-Wisconsin at 4:30 in the Champs Sports Bowl and California-Miami in the Emeral Bowl at 8:00 pm. We’ll try to preview those sometime this week.

Wake’s win is good for the conference however I wish the outcome were different. I can’t root against any of our service academies especially in times of war. These kids will be graduating and heading off for officer training then out onto the battle field. The kids from Wake don’t have to worry about losing their lives after they graduate. Navy is a fun team to watch and I’m looking forward to the Terps match up with them again next year. I will be rooting for Maryland but you can’t hate the Midshipmen.

I don’t think we play them next year. Isn’t it 2010?
